“Liivapõllu is a diverse plot mixing agricultural, forest, and other lands. It is located in the southwestern part of Estonia, a few kilometers away from the Baltic sea. The absence of big urban areas makes the air pure and the biodiversity abundant. Liivapõllu is cultivated with innovative agricultural practices that prevent soil depletion. This means that the plot is often left fallow to let it rest and rejuvenate. Depending on the year, farmers grow wheat, rapeseed, or different leguminous such as peas, soybeans, or clovers. The small forest on the plot enables ecological diversity and provides refuge for different species of birds throughout the year.”
